Installation Workshops, Taller de Obra
2019, Talca School of Architecture, Chile

The ‘Taller de Obra’ workshops in Talca, Chile are an annual programme where students construct a number of site-specific interventions and installations, on a limited budget and within a 2-week period. Right: This installation responds to the aftermath of the 2010 earthquake in Chile. Using a thorough investigation of specific site conditions, we designed a minimalist intervention which carved out a new public space, using rubble from the earthquake to create a sense of play and dynamism within the site.  Left: In this installation, the limitations of budget were seen as an opportunity. In contrast to the ‘heavy’ intervention of the other installation, a light and ethereal structure was suspended between trees. Local freely-available flour bags were recycled and sewn into a patchwork to create the material. Intended to appear as a cloud, it has an ‘immersive’ quality as you can step through a gap in the material to enter it.
